7 Reflections After Attending the IPDC AGM 2021

بِسْمِ اللَّهِ الرَّحْمَٰنِ الرَّحِيمِ

I am not a member of IPDC but I benefited greatly from the wonderful speeches in the AGM. Here are 7 reflections after the event.

1. 🌸 Dear friends, being imperfect is perfectly fine. Strive for perfection and seek forgiveness. Prophet ﷺ said:

“If you had not sinned, Allah would have taken you away and brought a people who would sin, and they would ask Allah’s forgiveness and He would forgive them.” (Muslim 2749)

2. 🌸 Dear friends, Allah does not forget the good you do. Do not regard any kindness as small, any good as insignificant, for they may save you.

وَأَحْسِنُوا ۛ إِنَّ اللَّهَ يُحِبُّ الْمُحْسِنِينَ

“And do good; indeed, Allah loves the doers of good.” (2:195)

3. 🌸 Dear friends, Do you remember when your parents brought something, and it surprised you and made you happy? Surprise your parents!

وَقَضَىٰ رَبُّكَ أَلَّا تَعْبُدُوا إِلَّا إِيَّاهُ وَبِالْوَالِدَيْنِ إِحْسَانًا

“And your Lord has decreed that you not worship except Him, and to parents excellence.” (17:23)

4. 🌸 Dear friends, you do not need to be the most talented, extraordinary, handsome or strong to be the best. Prophet Muhammad ﷺ said:

إِنَّ مِنْ خِيَارِكُمْ أَحْسَنَكُمْ أَخْلاَقًا

“Among the best of you are the best among you in character.” (Bukhari, 3559)

5. 🌸 Dear friends, lets try to be responsible and capable members of our society and community. Prophet Muhammad ﷺ said:

خَيْرُ النَّاسِ أَنْفَعُهُمْ لِلنَّاسِ

“The best of people are those who are the most beneficial to people.” (Mu’jam al-Awsaṭ 5937, Hasan (fair) — Albani)

6. 🌸 Dear friends, bring smiles, joy and relief to people. Remove fear, hunger, poverty, need and despair. Be a light for the world and a comfort for the eyes.

وَأَحْسِن كَمَا أَحْسَنَ اللَّهُ إِلَيْكَ

“And do good as Allah has done good to you.” (28:77)

7. 🌸 Dear friends, engage people. Make them feel cared, loved and respected.

مَا شَيْءٌ أَثْقَلُ فِي مِيزَانِ الْمُؤْمِنِ يَوْمَ الْقِيَامَةِ مِنْ خُلُقٍ حَسَنٍ

“Nothing is heavier on the believer’s Scale on the Day of Resurrection than good character.” (Tirmidhi 2002, Sahih — Darussalam)
